Pokémon Go

How to use Pokémon Go as a cheap marketing tool

Pokémon Go

By now, you would already have heard about this new augmented reality gaming craze called Pokémon Go. Some of you reading this may even be playing this game. Since this game has such incredibly widespread appeal, you may be wondering whether there’s a way for you to cash in on this craze. Today, I have an idea for you. It may be possible to exploit Pokémon Go to increase foot traffic to your business premises, and hopefully convert them into actual paying customer.

First, if you are not already playing this game, download Pokémon Go first.

Next, you need to load the game, register an account and find out whether there’s any PokéStops near your business premises. You have to decide which PokéStops you want Pokémon Go players to congregate together. And next, you need to have a plan on how to convert these Pokémon Go players into paying customers. I’ll leave you to think about that.

Now, here is the fun part. To attract Pokémon Go players to a PokéStop, you have to lure wild Pokémons to there. Pokémon Go players (or rather, Pokémon Trainers) themselves will be lured by the presence of wild Pokémons. To do that, you need to drop a “Lure Module” at the desired PokéStop. A “Lure Module” will attract wild Pokémons for 30 minutes. You will need to pay for the Lure Module with real money through the in-app purchase.

In this screenshot below, PokéStops are identified by blue icons. If you notice, one of the PokéStop has a cloud of pink and white. That indicates that someone has placed a Lure Module there.

Since each Lure Module lasts for 30 minutes, you can use them in succession to last as long as you like.

Good luck to your Pokémon Go marketing! If you have any interesting stories to share using this technique, please leave a comment below. You can download Pokémon Go here.
